Extrait du sujet: Document 1 The scene is set during a schoolgirl rowing1 competition on the Yarra River in Australia. The narrator is Leni. She is a member of her school's rowing crew2. Laura gathers us in a grassy spot out of the way of the crowd. She has the results of the race, on times. 'Firstly, I'm thrilled with how you raced today. It was strong, consistent rowing,' she says. 5 'St Ann's beat us,' I prompt, glumly. 'St Ann's won the Schoolgirls Division One in 33.04. You guys were second in 33.24.' 'They were twenty seconds ahead?' says Rachel. She sighs through her nose. 'They always beat us.' 10 'Let's not be too disappointed. Second is a very solid result.' Solid. Something about the word makes me unhappy. I'm the stroke3 of our crew and when we don't win, I take it personally. I'm desperate to be elected Captain of Boats in a few weeks' time, so every race counts. 15 'This is a pre-season, fun race. So we have a little competition on our hands. Gives us something to train for,' Laura says. 'Get a feed and hit the drinks station. Meet back at the boat to row home in an hour and a half.' Penny Mission grabs me as I head for the school tent on shaky legs. She's in Year Ten – the year below me – and seems keen to be mates. She's sweet, but I'm so busy 20
training I don't have much time for new friends. 'Don't worry about St Ann's, Leni,' she says. 'You rowed really well today. We all did.' She gives me a hug, which I find awkward and wriggle out of. I don't like touching, especially in public.
25 'We beat thirteen other first crews today,' she reminds me. 'But not the crew that counts,' I add. Penny droops and looks deflated. I can never see the glass half full. My brother, Cristian, says it's not a good character trait. 'Come on,' I say, forcing a smile. 'Let's eat. I'm so hungry I could eat half a cow.'
From Pip Harry, Head of the River, 2014

Extrait du sujet Female WWII Pilots: The Original Fly Girls
Margaret Phelan Taylor grew up on a farm in Iowa. She was 19, had just completed two years of college and was ready for adventure in 1943 when a Life magazine cover story on the female pilots caught her eye. Her brother was training to be a pilot with the Army. Why not her? She asked her father to lend her money for a pilot's license — $500, a huge amount then.
"I told him I had to do it," Taylor says. "And so he let me have the money. I don't think I ever did pay it back to him either." But there was a problem. She was half an inch shorter than the 5-foot-2-inch1 requirement. "I just stood on my tiptoes," she says. When she arrived at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas, where most of the WASPs2 were trained, "Well, there were a lot of other short ones just like me, and we laughed about how we got in."
Short, tall, slim, wide, they all came in knowing how to fly. The military trained male pilots from scratch, but not the female civilian volunteers. "They didn't want to bring in a bunch of girls who didn't know how to fly an airplane," says Katherine Sharp Landdeck, associate professor of history at Texas Woman's University, who's writing a book about the WASPs, tentatively called Against Prevailing Winds: The Women Airforce Service Pilots and American Society. "So you have women who are getting out of high school and taking every dime they had to learn how to fly so they could be a WASP."

Extrait du sujet :
VisitScotland has identified a new tourism trend – the "consoliday" (console-holiday) – people choosing to experience in real life the landscapes they see virtually before them within the games, or wanting to visit the country in which the game was conceived.
Minecraft fans turned out in their thousands to catch a glimpse of YouTube legend Stampy 5 the Cat in Dundee last month, and with big operators, such as Start The Adventure already offering "gaming adventure tours", the national tourism organisation is hoping consolidays could be as popular as 'set-jetting', where people visit a destination after seeing it in a film.
Scotland features in a number of games such as Grand Theft Auto (the Forth bridges and other destinations), Call of Duty: Ghosts (Stonehaven/Dunnottar Castle), Tomb Raider III 10 (Loch Ness), Project Gotham Racing 2 (Edinburgh), and the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series.
In addition to being inspired by on-screen landscapes, fans also visit Scotland to see where their favourite games were created in 15 cities such as Dundee and Edinburgh.

Document 1 I recall clearly how the nightmare started. Martin, my husband, sat me in the car, and announced: "I have a surprise." He then proceeded to drive three hours from our flat in Notting Hill to Herefordshire. Rolling hills, sheep, picturesque farmhouses: Herefordshire's Golden Valley is a bucolic vision. Martin stopped the car at the top of a drive: "This," he 5 announced, " is Great Brampton House." At the end of the drive stood a large Regency residence. The sun gilded its charming, if slightly run-down façade; "It's beautiful!" I trilled, enchanted; "I was hoping you'd say that," Martin had a twinkle in his eye: "I've just bought it." (...)
